*Acid Mantle & pH Balance

The skin's acid mantle is a thin, protective layer on the skin's surface composed of sebum and sweat, which creates a slightly acidic environment. It needs to remain at an optimal pH level (around 5.5).

A higher pH means the acid mantle is too alkaline and can make the skin dry, flaky, and susceptible to infections, while a lower pH means that is too acidic and can result in inflammation and is prone to acne.
